August 2, 2010   •   Arabians, Endurance, International Customers, TREC   •   Author: Julie   •   Comments: (2)

Hello. I send you a picture of Shawa, my young Shagya stallion. He is a marvelous horse, very full of energy, but gentle and comfortable. I ride him to organize my trip with clients in our very nice area… Best regards.

Valérie offers guided horseback tours in the mountains of France. Visit her website, www.leva-neve.com, for more details, and stunning ride images, as well as more pictures of Shawa.

Shawa is typed “Homozygous Black”, with prestigious origins because his lineage includes the standard XXXIX Dahoman 11 - 66 and III Koheilan Shogun. Shawa represented the breed in the Arab Shagya Fair Equitalyon along with the USKA Traclin. In 2009 Valérie and Shawa participated in training by Olivier Gradwohl TREC, TREC world champion. This enabled Shawa to work among other horses and the obstacles he did not know. A day of training at all levels!

“Shawa finishing his first endurance ride, 20 kms (about 12 1/2 miles) - 1st prime.”

“Shawa with his new Long Riders Gear equipment!”
–Shawa’s new endurance gear includes a Toklat CoolBack Saddle Pad, Toklat CoolBack Huntstyle Breastplate, Zilco Marathon Endurance Halter Bridle, and RJ Flat Trail Reins.

Attached are a few photos of my boy, as you can see he is wearing his Dr. Cooke’s Bitless Bridle, and loves it. I happened to see you sold them. He is so happy, he feels free - I would never use a bit again. My pony is Saeed Nabil. He is a purebred Arabian and only stands at 13.2 hands. He’s 14 years old. We were doing a 14-mile ride in aid of RDA, at Cranborne, Wiltshire, England. The photos are from DPI Photography. –Thanks again, Carole.

I am John Soper from Michigan and belong to the Great Lakes Distance Riders Association here in the Great Lakes area. I am 61 years old and ride with my 21 year old daughter Rachel who tries to keep up. :)

Here are a couple pics of me and my horses. The first is a painting of me and my 3 year old Arabian colt Roo. He will be started next year in CTR’s as a 4 year old. The second is Sabu, my Arabian gelding who had his first and second 25 mile CTR this year, taking Best Arabian and Best Conditioned horse on his first time out.  –John Soper

This photo was taken by a very dear friend of mine and ride photographer, Gary Nathanson, at a NATRC ride in Oklahoma about 4 years ago.  Connor (aka, Reining Monarch), my grey Arabian gelding (and my main squeeze, I might add) and I rounded a corner and saw Gary in the bushes.  Connor, being the ham that he is, and liking Gary for the treats he brings him, posed for this shot when I told him, “Oh, look!  There’s Gary!”  Needless to say, we love Long Rider’s Gear and the products they offer for riders like us.

I am a big fan of your products and the education you provide to your customers.

My name is Tami Montalvo and I am blessed with a handsome Straight Egyptian Arabian by the name of Samir. I live in Spring, Texas and board my friend in Pinehurst. I can’t imagine anything more fascinating, beautiful or powerful than horses.

I fulfilled my lifelong dream of owning a horse in my 40’s. By the way, this is my hope for all those who loved horses as a child or still find them intriguing as an adult. Find an opening somewhere in your life and dive through it! Once you find you realize your dream, make the time and enjoy your horse. You deserve this experience!

Over the past 4.5 years, Samir and I have been riding the trails of Texas. Proud to say, I have logged over 1,000 hours in the saddle! Not bad for a working girl. What’s most important is that I have a relationship and a bond like no other I have every experienced in my life. Samir is my friend, playmate, and my therapist.

Samir was trained by the legendary, Rhita McNair of Arabian Horse fame. Now in her seventies, Rhita still rides daily, and offers lessons to both people and horses. She is an incredible woman and an exceptional trainer. I have learned so much from Rhita - aren’t horse people the best? Samir loves the trail and is enthusiastic about his work. He has evolved into an exceptional trail horse and is a perfect gentleman. He responds to cues with ease and minds his manners. Samir actually takes care of us. We have become one unit, and I can actually “think” him into action – amazing. He loves a brisk gallop and when trotting through trees and low branches, he identifies the least difficult route and leaves space for my knees.

I really LOVE this guy and I know that so many of you can relate. If you read this, I would love to hear all of your stories too. I know that the folks at Long Riders feel the same way!

Here are pictures of my fabulous partner and friend who gives me an imperial view of the world from his strong back! This is Samir! Blessings! –Tami Montalvo

I’ve been ordering from you guys for several years. I am an endurance rider and love all your stuff!  My last order had a note asking for pictures, so I’ve attached a picture of my horse, Bart, and me. It was taken by Terri Rashid last October at the Lake Sonoma Endurance Ride. We were actually doing a pre-ride the day before and Terri decided to take some pictures. Bart is pretty “amped up” as you can see and she thought he looked like a carousel horse! I love that picture too as it really captures his dynamic and quirky personality!

I have bought lots of things from you, from tack to the HiTie and Jokers Horse Cookies… and I will keep doing so. In fact, I need to place an order for cookies so will go to the website and do so now!

Thanks so much for including us in your blog. –Kathy Brayton

Every summer I ride sections of the Pacific Crest Trail, having started at the south end of Lassen. In the picture, I’m on the PCT on Wickiup Plain in central Oregon. This is my therapy and gives me the solitude I need with my best friend Shamar, surrounded by the breathtaking inspiration of the natural world.  The lava flow behind me is on the west side of South Sister.

I’ve been a Long Riders Gear customer for probably ten years and always enjoyed Tracy’s friendship and wonderful trail riding equipment recommendations - I particularly like the fact that you all are serious trail riders and know your products.  I’ve especially liked the hanging mesh feeders for camping (they perform exceptionally in the wind), and the Stowaway Saddlebags, among other functional, lightweight trail gear.

How do I look?….that’s me on the extreme left. This photo is taken from a view point above the Trans Canada Trail on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. This is a 4 hour ride we love to do that takes us along an old logging rail bed and up on a ridge overlooking the valley we just rode through. On a clear day, we can see the snow covered Mt. Baker in Washington State as we look south. Of course, it is all about the horses, so, from left to right, is me (Lynn) on the purebred Arab, DA Propane. He was an endurance horse that we purchased from Texas and we all think he is a “super star”. In the middle is Justine on her rescued Standardbred, “Dave”. Next is Colleen on Puck. Puck is ranch-bred Quarter Horse who is an excellent competitive trail horse.

DA Propane is out of the Zodiak Matador line and bred by Dolorosa Arabians, but he didn’t do well under the park horse training… it was extreme luck that I was able to purchase this horse. Quite often I only ride him with a neck string. I thought you might enjoy this video clip. Trail Riding in British Columbia

Here’ a photo of my other horse, Sweet Georgia. She is a real beauty, an appendix (QH/TB) with outstanding training… a Level 4 Parelli horse.

Hi there, just wanted to let you know that everything arrived perfectly. The Cari Lite Corral is sure slick. By the way, thought you would get a good laugh out of what 15.1 (that’s me in the red) looks like beside 17.3 hands on the right and 16.3 on the left! Thanks again and happy trails to everyone.

Looking forward to the cantle saddlepack….my old one that I have had for years finally got torn, when one of my folding saws (to cut branches off trails) tore a hole in the bottom of my pack when it unfolded on its own. Luckily I noticed it when I was standing by a river and saw my pack gear nicely dropping along the ground - I almost didn’t believe it was my stuff. Good thing I had my cell phone, truck keys and camera in a small front pack. Here’s a photo my friend snapped last weekend - I still have the black pack on the saddle with good ole duct tape on the bottom side over the tear. –Lynn

The three pictures on sand are at our favorite riding spot, Spring Creek, in Spring, TX.  The photo with the airplane in the background is at the Houston Intercontinental Airport, where I am a member of the Houston Airport Rangers, a volunteer security program.  Gusto is an 11-year-old half Arabian, half Shagya gelding.  Thanks for letting me share!

This picture was taken by Lynne Glazer the first day of the Cuyama Oaks XP 2009. My 8 yr. old 1/2 Arab Pinto “Splash” and I had a great day, and she completed her first 50 mile endurance ride! Since then we’ve been zipping down the trail with four more 50’s under our belt!

See you on the trails!
